ABILITY: A JOURNEY WITH RACHEL (2015)

This is a short documentary about Rachel Barcellona. The project was filmed between Fall 2014 and Summer 2015 during her time as Miss Florida Collegiate.
Rachel has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. Despite her condition, she has the ability to accomplish so many amazing things in the pageant world and beyond. The film follows her journey through multiple events as Miss Florida Collegiate, including autism awareness events, photoshoots, interviews, and parades.
The film premiered at the 2015 World Arts Film Festival in Jacksonville, Florida. The film won the Special Jury Prize for Youth Documentary.
EXTRATERRESTRIAL TALK RADIO (2022)
The first Single Step Studios narrative short film.
The inspiration for the film was the 2020 pandemic and how many people believed it could not get any worse. Some believed we would be ending the year in either an Independence Day style alien invasion or a giant asteroid. I thought New Year’s Eve would be a great date as we were hoping to move on from the challenges of 2020 and have a return to normalcy in 2021.
Pre-production started in early 2021 in Orlando with me and the film’s producer, Sunsareee van Aken, working on the project. Casting began a couple of months later. Production was to begin in the summer of 2021, but the project was postponed due to location issues. The film remained in production limbo for almost 6 months while a new location was found in both the Orlando and Tampa areas.
Finally in January 2022, Rick and Brenda Ricketts let us use their huge yard in Clearwater, FL. Due to the time lapse from the original start date to the actual start date of production, the film had to be recast with the exception of Ryan Kmetz as the voice of the Alien.
After working with Mikayla Kane on Chris Leto's "Cheerleader Sleepover Slaughter,” she was brought onboard as the lead role of The Listener.
The film was shot in one night. A month later, we took a trip to Orlando to record Ryan’s lines as The Alien.
The film wrapped post-production in November 2022. It later premiered at the 2023 Sunscreen Film Festival.
